Thong heels and chunky sandals seem to be all the rage on Instagram and Pinterest. Thongs are what we call flip flops here in Australia. We still call the underwear as a thong as well so I guess it just has a double meaning. I don’t think I’ll ever be calling them flip flops – it’s just an extra syllable and it doesn’t roll off naturally the tongue haha.
When I first saw thong heels online, I couldn’t imagine myself wearing them. On second thought, I decided to order a pair off ASOS and I kinda like it. I am glad that these are in – I detest heels for being too strappy or having ankle buckles which is about 80% of my collection. I am ready for spring and summer. Sydney is getting out of a lockdown in 4 months and I just can’t wait to look cute again.
Despite the shoes being in a thong style, the heels give an elevated look that I think would work really well paired with a night time dress. I think it would look really cute in a coloured heel such as a lilac purple or baby blue.

If you want something more casual, the thong sandal may be an option for you. I purchased this pair from Vagabond from ASOS and I really like them. They look more flattering in person – trust me. Vagabond shoes are made of real leather so I justified the higher price points because hopefully these shoes will be more sturdy and I see them as a staple spring/summer item that I will wear for multiple seasons.
I am absolutely obsessed with the pastels. If you want to add a bit of colour in your wardrobe but are too afraid of mixing it up, adding colour to your shoes is a small yet fantastic start to experiment with colours.
