How weird is it that scrunchies are back on trend. I religiously wore blue and yellow scrunchies in primary school as blue and yellow were my school colours. I thought it was the dorkiest thing ever. Now it brings back so much nostalgia. Did anyone wear Scunci as a kid?
I personally love scrunchies. They act like hair ties that I can colour-coordinate with my outfit but they’re also more gentle on the hair. I have long hair that can tangle easily so wearing scrunchies can avoid the breakage I would get if I used a normal elastic hairtie. This is because scrunchies have that decorative material on the outside.
I definitely do wear scrunchies on an everyday basis and personally think it is even ok to wear for work or a formal setting. However, I would keep the scrunchie as neutral and muted as possible. As I mention later, my most worn scrunches are satin. Satin is a really elegant material that makes you look sophisticated and put together even when you don’t feel it.
My scruchie collection consists of a range of colours from neutrals, brights and pastels and a range of textures from linen, satin and velvet. I love the look of a velvet scrunchie but do find that velvet scrunchies tend to tangle my hair more often than other fabrics so I definitely wear my satin scrunchies the most.
These are some of my favourite and most worn scrunchies. My most recent purchase is the satin nude scrunchie on the left which cost $3 from H&M. It is ridiculously comfortable and is such an elegant versatile neutral shade that complements any outfit.
The scrunchie in the middle was from Cotton On which I bought a year ago and is a really elegant rose gold scrunchie that I wear to work a lot. The scrunchie on the right is from Seed and is a cute little statement piece to wear. I absolutely live for leopard print.
I recently purchased this lime green scrunchie from H&M. It’s really big and super cute and such a great way to incorporate colour into your outfit even if you’re hesitant to venture out of neutral clothing. It wouldn’t be a colour I would wear to work or a formal setting but this is a super cute scrunchie to wear on a casual day out. I love the plisse pleated texture of the scrunchie.
The satin olive green scrunchie is one that I do regularly wear and is also from Cotton On. I find this shade is muted enough to wear everyday and I do sometimes wear green to work. There is a satin green maxi skirt and a khaki pencil skirt that I do wear on rotation to work so I wear this scrunchie with it and I feel really put together. I’ve also been complimented for this too.
It’s all about the details baby.
Lastly, I wanted to show my velvet scrunchie collection. I did have a velvet black scrunchie which I accidentally left behind after a Bumble hookup which is pretty embarrassing. The majority of these scrunchies were purchased from Urban Outfitters but you can also get velvet scrunchies cheaply from Kmart and even H&M. The lilac purple scrunchie was a recent purchase from H&M and I am absolutely obsessed with it.
Below, I’ve shown a few of my favourite scrunchies that I’ve seen online. I’m a huge fan of the neutral colours such as black and beige but I also love playing with different textures, colours and patterns.
