Last Minute New Year’s Eve NYE Outfit Ideas

December 26, 2020

Reading Time: 3 minutes

New Year’s Eve is just around the corner and honestly it’s a stressful time of the year because I’m always thinking oh my god what are my NYE plans and will I be a loser if I just stay at home? First of all, we need to normalise that people can just stay home at NYE and not everyone needs to go all out. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t browse for a bomb NYE outfit that I can wear in an alternate reality.

So many places do really quick express shipping which is perfect for all last-minute shopaholics like me. ASOS and Topshop would be my go-tos to start with. For those living in Australia, try Princess Polly, Meshki or Whitefox Boutique for NYE party looks with express shipping. Sheike and Zara would also be a great place to start if shopping instore.

I’ve collated a few of my NYE fashion inspo:

Boots

Okay I’ve been bingeing on Rupaul’s Drag Race (All Stars 5) for the whole day so I am just thinking to slay the house down BOOTS. You can’t go wrong with a nice black boot – preferably with a heel or chunky or leather or patent/vinyl. Boots are also a lot more comfortable and versatile than a heel (I want an outfit that I can wear 365 days a year not just on NYE). NYE can actually be a really hectic time- constantly standing and moving about. It’s best to be as comfortable as much as possible.

Leather

I love leather! Again – this could be my obsession with Rupaul’s Drag Race (giving you dominatrix leather and latex runway realness). Leather boots, leather dresses, leather leggings, leather dresses and of course, leather skirts. I’ve been wearing leather skirts a lot lately in the office and they’re a great staple for your wardrobe for both day and night wear. When worn at night, it can really stand out and look really stylish – perfect to ring in the new year.

Satin

After leather, satin is probably one of my favourite materials to work with. I definitely think it adds a bit of spice and party flavour. Think satin camis, satin dresses, mini skirts, heels or blazers. An added bonus of wearing a statement blazer is it keeps you warm which comes in super handy when it gets cold at night. Having to wait in the cold for hours for the firework display doesn’t sound ideal to me so at least keep yourself warm.

Statement Pieces – Think Materials, Shape and Colours

NYE is one day to stand out so make sure your outfit pops and it’s a memorable one. Again – could be my obsession with Rupaul’s Drag Race (okay I am inspired). Shake up the silhouette. I am a huge fan of the asymmetrical top at the moment. I also recently wore a one shoulder top and I felt fabulous. It’s a little daring and bold but when you feel comfortable in your own skin, it looks fierce.

I’m also a huge fan of wearing big pants. Whether it’s wearing pants with big ruffles or bright colours like purple or neon pink, stand out this NYE. Whenever I think of NYE, I think of sequins and sparkles and whilst, that sounds a bit outdated, if that’s your thing, go for it – do you!

Have fun!

I hope you are just as excited as me to end 2020. I’ve had it officially. Watch the clip to see Detox from RPDR to see what my mood towards 2020 is like.

It’s been a long and difficult year for all of us so let’s make NYE a fun one. I’m definitely one who prefers style over comfort and NYE can be a really really long night so at least be comfortable wearing your stunning outfit.

PSA: If you wear pyjamas or sweatpants this NYE, that is perfectly okay too! I’m probably going to be on my couch watching Drag Race anyway. I finished watching Drag Race Canada in one day. I would totally recommend it if you’re a fan of the franchise.

Neither – I much prefer staying at home if possible. NYE is always so busy, it’s impossible to get anywhere so I’ll rather stay on my couch thanks haha. Thanks for reading
