Cafe Review: Edmonds & Greer [Oatley, Sydney]

December 6, 2020

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Edmonds & Greer 1/97 Mulga Rd, Oatley NSW 2223

I live in the southern suburbs of Sydney. For most of my life I’ve thought of where I live as very suburban, very residential and very boring. I still believe this to this day. However, I was feeling in a brunchy sort of mood this weekend and had a browse for any nice cafes in my local area. Edmonds & Greer came up and after 30 minutes on my phone chilling in bed, I was on my way.

Situated in Oatley West, Edmonds & Greer is a 5-10 minute walk from Oatley Station. The cafe is really spacious with seating areas out the front, inside and the back courtyard. They do have specials but I opted from their breakfast menu and got the:

Avo-Lanche $18

toasted sourdough atop with avocado, bacon, feta, rocket & lime

add poached eggs +4

This dish was lovely. It was a really generous amount of bacon and rocket. I thought the feta was a bit overwhelming but overall, it was really delicious and filling. I’m definitely more into savoury dishes when ordering at a cafe. I need my eggs and my bacon.

I really loved the atmosphere at the cafe. It was so relaxed and slow-paced. The abundance of flowers and plants and the nice Saturday weather really made this a pleasant eating experience. The cafe was definitely dog-friendly with so many friendly critters stopping by.

If you live in the St George Area/South Sydney, I would highly recommend checking out this cafe. The pricing is affordable, the food is great and you will have a wonderful calming Saturday morning. Also, it’s bring your dog or BYD haha.

I do fancy a donut but I’m trying to avoid sugary sweets at the moment. They do look really good though. I think in this difficult time amidst a pandemic, it’s really important to keep an eye out and support our local small businesses. Local businesses already do it so tough with the financial stress it takes to keep a cafe running but the pandemic restrictions have definitely aggravated this.

The cafe is absolutely blooming stunning. This definitely looks like a Pinterest inspiration decor picture.

However, this cafe can get quite busy. I was sat down immediately but I would preferably book in advance if you’re in a bigger group. Also given this is in south Sydney, we really don’t have many good cafe options out there so I’m not surprised it’s so busy.

Edmonds & Greer is not simply just a cafe. They also have a gift shop that is adjacent to the cafe and trust me, it’s worth having a look after a big hearty meal. There were some really fantastic Christmas gift ideas at really affordable prices. The Christmas decorations were oh so dreamy but we haven’t had a Christmas tree in years and I don’t think we’re starting in 2020.
