Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well. I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired recently (blaming that on work and the weather) so I thought I’ll start this worth the hype? series. I will mainly focus on beauty and skincare items but this applies to anything that I think has been hyped up. We will really test and ask- well is it worth the hype?
I want to preface that these are all my honest opinions and while a product may work on me, it may not necessarily work on you and vice-versa.
My skin type:
oily/combo & sensitive (eczema)

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask is packaged in a highly marketable millennial pink and fresh watermelon scent. It looks super cute.
In Australia, you can find this in Mecca. Alternatively, you can find it on the Glow Recipe website, Sephora (US), Amazon (US) and Cult Beauty (UK) among other retailers.
I bought this on a whim whilst at the checkout (hence, it’s the mini size).
The Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask is $35 AUD for 30ml and $72 AUD for 80ml.
I remember going through an ‘argument’ with the sales assistant at Mecca because it was advertised a dollar cheaper (retails for $35 but the sign said $34) and I felt like a total wanker trying to get $1 off but we move.
Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask is described as:
A skin-smoothing, radiance-boosting nightly sleeping mask with watermelon, hyaluronic acid, and AHAs that gently exfoliate and refine the look of pores.
This felt like a great solution-driven product for me because minimising pores is one of my top skincare concerns. I’m very fortunate to have quite clear skin (despite eczema- my eczema 100% flares up my body but not my face so I defs want to look into solution skincare for the body). Despite this, I think my pores are quite large. Pores are a good indicator of oily skin.
Let’s have a look into some of the ingredients used in the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask.
Hyaluronic acid is a popular ingredient in skincare because it helps with hydrating the skin. It can also help with smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
AHA is useful for brightening skin complexion through exfoliation of dead skin cells. It is also helpful to reduce wrinkles and discolouration.
Watermelon not only smells delicious but is full of antioxidants and vitamin A and C that help with slowing the ageing process. It encourages collagen growth leaving the skin supple and soft.
I was also really drawn to the fact it was an overnight sleeping face mask. It sounds like the ultimate product for your beauty sleep.
So why should you use an overnight face mask?

It seems like this fad is also practical and functional and not just fashionable. Since the mask is left overnight, it is able to absorb the ingredients of the mask to your face more than a regular face mask. Since the mask is left for hours, it is designed to provide more substantial T.L.C to your skin.
They’re a great complement to traditional face masks and are zero effort. Big love to the overnight face mask. You can still perform your skincare routine as usual. e.g. cleansers, serums, toners, face cream/moisturiser.
The only thing to look out for is to not use silicone based products prior. Sleeping masks are all about absorption and silicones create a moisture barrier to the skin.
My thoughts on the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask
I was really pleasantly surprised with this product. The watermelon scent is very fruity and pleasant. The mask feels very oily and heavy but upon putting this on my face, it pleasantly feels nice and not uncomfortable nor greasy at all.
Tip: A little goes a long way. I honestly think one scoop is more than enough for one application. I believe the full sized product has a spatula but the mini one doesn’t. A spatula would be super useful.

I have oily/combination and sensitive skin (eczema) and it didn’t seem problematic at all. I can see why some people may think it’s overly fragranced so if you’re not into that or like watermelon (sugar)- that could be a problem.
But if you also don’t like watermelon or Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles, that’s also a problem (I kid)!
I don’t have any breakouts (thank lord) and my skin visibly feels brighter and more plump and baby smooth. I’m really happy with that and could immediately feel a difference in my skin the next day.
However, the big question is has it targeted my big pores and the answer is- not really?. I’ve use this 1-2 times a week this past month and they don’t seem much different. My pores look slightly minimised but I’m not going to lie- they’re still there and prominent.
I do think this would be a great product for dry skin types whilst also working well for oily/combination skin types. Despite feeling quite ‘oily’ upon application, I found that the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask wasn’t problematic and my skin has never felt more soft and smooth so for that I think it’s sort of worth the hype? It’s really nice but it’s not life-changing.
Despite the value you get for the full-sized product, the mini is more than substantial and it is a great starting point to start off with skincare or Glow Recipe. It’s what I got sooooo if you’re still on the fence, you can always give it a go. My Watermelon Glow Vanity Set features the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask among other products. Personally, I love buying sets because I get to try multiple products and let’s be real, how many skincare products do you actually finish?
In addition, Glow Recipe is a woman-owned company founded by two pals, Sarah and Christine that originated and was inspired by K-beauty. The brand was founded in 2014 and has already achieved cult status and has since launched a community to make friends and share a passion for beauty and wellness. I just love to see it.
You had me at watermelon 😉
have a great day,
