NARS Casino Bronzer Review | The Underrated Sister to NARS Laguna

July 19, 2020

NARS products have always attracted me. They do such an amazing job with their branding and aesthetic and every product looks so gorgeous, elegant and premium.

I purchased the NARS bronzer in the shade Casino from the MECCA sale so it was 50% off and I got it for $30 instead of the usual $60 which is amazing.

I also got this bronzer in part of a sale so I believe it’s an older formula. MECCA is never on sale but when they are- trust and believe the sale products are old, damaged or discontinued- lmao why can’t you give us even a 10% off sale?

Sephora is not as well-liked in Australia (I think it started from lack of brands and customer service but they’ve grown on me) but even they have tons of offers and 20% off sales multiple times a year. For brick and mortar stores, Sephora and Mecca are the two make-up giants in Australia and they have many exclusivity contracts.

My mum is always asking me why Sephora doesn’t sell brands such as Nars, Too Faced and Hourglass. I’m like yeah- they’re sold on Mecca. And vice-versa. Products from Sephora aren’t really sold on Mecca (think Kat Von D, Tarte, Fenty Beauty and ABH). However, because Mecca sells so many exclusive but well-loved brands (think NARS, Hourglass, Drunk Elephant and Tatcha), they can get away without sales because they have such a dominant hold on the Australian beauty market.

The other day, I was just scrolling on Cult Beauty and after converting British pounds to Australian dollars, I realised how much cheaper NARS was but guess what.

Cult Beauty no longer ship NARS to Australia.

Literally the only two brands I’m interested in on Cult Beauty (NARS and Milk Makeup) don’t ship to Australia. Well that was a waste of time-

Anyway- back to this review. Sorry I can get on tangents. Since this was a sale product, it may be a different formulation to the current NARS bronzers. The current bronzers have a slightly different packaging and seem more shimmery.

Much like NARS Orgasm blush (absolute holy grail by the way), NARS Laguna bronzer is the cult-favourite. I would call Casino, Laguna’s underrated sister. The sister you haven’t heard of but she’s just as good. Casino is a really wearable shade perfect for medium toned babes. I have yellow undertones and this works great with my skin tone. I would recommend this is you are a medium/tan skin tone.

It looks darker and more redder than my Benefit Hoola bronzer as depicted and the Hoola bronzer is kind of my holy grail. I’ve seen swatches and I feel Laguna is a closer match to Hoola than Casino is.

I really love how natural this bronzer is and it’s not orange at all. This is definitely more of a matte finish. I know NARS also have more shimmery bronzers but I personally prefer more matte finish bronzers. A more matte finish feel more put together and sophisticated and it’s more of a subtle everyday look.

I also feel matte bronzers ‘shape’ and define the face a little more which I need. I was blessed (more like cursed) with such a round, chubby face (I said blessed because we’re accepting and loving our bodies and our faces – click here to read one of my fave posts I’ve even written all about body positivity and acceptance). It’s taken about twenty years to get used to and whilst I am embracing it, I also wish for a day when I have chiseled cheekbones and a nice angular face shape. A girl can dream right.

Hehe sorry I had way too much fun on Canvas and making this cute little photo collage but I’m lowkey feeling myself. I really love this NARS bronzer in Casino and I do think it is well-worth the full price. You get so much product. It is also really long-lasting so it’s perfect for everyday makeup for work or school.

Other Products I Mentioned in this post (AND LOVE)

Have you tried any NARS bronzers or NARS products? Let me know since I’m always interested to try new things.

Anyway until next time,
