Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Music is a very important part of me. I love discovering new artists, listening to my favourites and attending concerts and festivals. Every month I’ll be doing my monthly favourites.
There is also a way you can find your most listened to tracks and artists from Spotify. This website will do all the hard work for you and I love how you can find your most listened tracks and artists from 4 weeks (1 month) , 6 months and all time. It is a really good way to keep track and realise what sort of genres you gravitate towards listening to and if your music taste has changed over time. Mine certainly has.

As you can see from my most listened to artists for June, I definitely gravitated towards more chill jazz/R&B artists given my listening to Jamiroquai and Tom Misch. There are two of some of my favourite artists ever and I am really happy I actually got to see Tom Misch whilst I was living in the UK at his Birmingham gig.
I’ve been listening to a lot more Rex Orange County this month as I have been listening to a lot of Bedroom Pop (Listening to Happiness as I am writing this post). It honestly is one of my favourite genres. I’ll list some of my favourite songs this month.

I have been listening to A LOT of Omar Apollo this month. In addition to swooning over him (he is hot), I love his music ranging from soul, R&B and funk. This song is a BOP and definitely is underappreciated given it has less than 1 million views on Youtube. This is a crime. It deserves more.
I have definitely heard of Omar Apollo before this month but I haven’t given him much thought. I’m so glad I am on the bandwagon now.

Every month I’m going to pay homage to at least one Australian artist. The talent in this country is unreal. I have heard of Winston Surfshirt but I have not actually listened to their music and I am so glad I have.
For some reason, I thought they would sound like Earl Sweatshirt (obviously no correlation) but I was not expected nor prepared to hear this funk machine! I’ve linked a live performance of this song from Splendour in the Grass in 2019 and I will have my ears peeled if they are on the lineup for any upcoming Australian festivals.
UPDATE: I listened and found out they have a show in Sydney in December so guess who got tickets!!!

Mac Ayres is seriously underrated. He doesn’t produce any song less than a banger. I’ve only found out this song recently but this has been on repeat on my playlist. This is such a chill song you could vibe to driving on cruise control at 3AM.
If he released a tour date in Sydney, I would mark it in my calendar and buy tickets as soon as they dropped and even go alone. That’s how much I would want to see him.

I LOVE THIS SONG. You may have heard it from Tik Tok and even if Tik Tok wasn’t a thing, this song would definitely have blown up. I love the styling and aesthetic they also chose for the music video.
Curtis Waters has acknowledged how the success of this song has changed his life so much for the better (think he said he was able to drop out of college) and I can’t wait to hear more things from him. Having Asian parents myself, I know how judgemental they can be with ‘less lucrative and unconventional careers’. I wish him all the best- he’s killing it.

I can not be talking about bedroom pop if I didn’t mention the queen herself, Clairo. Clairo reminds me a lot of Steve Lacy (who I did see in Sydney and was the last artist I saw before lockdown) in the fact that she has a very authentic upbringing producing all her music on Garageband when she started. This is incredible and shows you don’t have to have all these fancy backdrops, producers and money to make it as a musician. If you are real and talented with a great personality, it will shine.
I don’t really feel like a pretty girl but when I listen to this, I feel like a pretty girl 4EVER.
I hope you enjoyed my June Music Favourites. Feel free to give my playlist a follow. It’s called dreams and is heavily inspired by bedroom pop (and some Jamiroquai because I love that oops).
Until next time,
Clarissa

These obviously are some great tunes; I need to expand my music taste so will have a listen to these picks. It’s awesome how you can feature your most listened to songs on your blog – the wonders of technology! Thanks for sharing x

Thanks!! I’m always up for listening to new music. I would say I listen to a wide range of genres. It’s so cool that technology can find out things so quickly but also creepy that it can access all our data- food for thought haha x
I enjoyed this post. Thank you.
